Cape Elizabeth

On the way "home" from camp, we decided to do a coastal drive. With stops for sight-seeing, peeing, eating, etc... it took a good 7 hours! The boys were troopers!! We headed straight out to the coast, to Maine. This is Cape Elizabeth, just south of Portland Maine. The rock formations were incredible, up close, you would swear they were petrified wood! It was explained to us by a park official that it is a specific kind of rock, that makes it look that way, but the layers were created after hundreds of years of the ocean just smashing against the rocks, and smashing layers of rocks into more layers of rocks. From a straight cut, side view, it looked like the "rings" you find inside trees. It was a light-weight rock too, so if you picked up a pice that chipped off, it really did seem like a petrified wood. Very cool!
